Rajasthan Royals seal Chargers’ fate

HYDERABAD: After a week of starvation it was a feast spread for Hyderabadi cricket lovers. There were tiny tots, grandmothers, film stars and peanut sellers. And they were charged up right from the word go. The Deccan cheerers turned up in large numbers to infuse enough energy into the discharged home team - Deccan Chargers.

The decibel levels reached the crescendo as the match progressed and Andrew Symonds electrified the beautifully-lit up Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket stadium with some devastating power hitting ever seen by the Hyderabadis. Despite the home team losing two games on trot in the Indian Premier League (IPL) the enthusiasm among the crowd did not vanish. So it seemed at the venue at least as the stadium was decently filled an hour before the game started and crowd increased as the match started. Charging the cheerers were the sizzling dances and sexy cheer leaders. Thousands of eyes turned automatically to the beautiful girls every time the ball crossed the boundary and they moved their shapely bodies.
“It’s worth watching,”said Arun, a student from Indu College of Engineering who came along with friends.
But the connection with the cheer girls got disconnected whenever Andrew Symonds or Shahid Afridi fielded at the boundary. They were clear favourites and cornered all the loud cheers from the crowd. They responded to the shouting brigade waving their hands. Symonds went a bit further and shook his body to the pulsating tune of “Karo Karo Jara Jalsa” much to the delight of his fans.
A few film stars present in the crowd too got their cheers. Young actor Nitin came along with his group of friends and was uncontrollable when Symonds belted the ball all around the ground. The microphones kept at the corporate boxes to catch the crowd’s response were used to the hilt by youngsters who wished their friends shouting into the microphone. They ensured that their voice reached to all the television sets in the country.
The confirmation came from the constantly ringing mobiles.
As the local team sensed its first victory in the last two overs they were all on their toes leaving the chairs and cheering the team. But all that enthusiasm dropped like mercury in freezing winter as Shane Warne hit those two huge sixes in the last over sealing the Chargers’ fate.
